Body weight and the energetics of temperature regulation: a re-examination.

چکیده
Investigations in the past two decades have shown the utility of the Newtonian model of heat loss from homoiotherms which was established in the biological literature by Scholander et al. (1950a, b, c). The stimulative effect of those papers is seen in a proliferation of thermoregulatory studies (for reviews see Bartholomew, 1968; Dawson & Hudson, 1970). Sufficient data'have been generated from a wide range in body sizes to permit recognition of allometric generalizations that are useful for predictive purposes and for inter-class and intra-class comparisons (e.g. Herreid & Kessel, 1967; Lasiewski, Weathers & Bernstein, 1967; Kendeigh, 1969). McNab (1970) has employed allometric equations, ratios of allometric equations, and ratios of ratios of allometric equations to explore further Newton's law of cooling. As used in the biological context, this law is stated

Body weight and the energetics of temperature regulation.
The recent rebirth of interest in the 200-year-old field of homoiothermic energetics may be dated from three papers published in 1950 by Scholander, Irving and colleagues. These papers furnished many data and a theoretical analysis of the energetics of temperature regulation in tropical and arctic birds and mammals. A massive body of data has since become available through the efforts of many w...

Introduction: Maintenance of the body temperature reduces mortality in low birth weight infants and adequate environmental warmth is essential for maintenance of the body temperature of newborns. However, neonatal hypothermia continues to be a significant issue in the developing countries. This study was performed to describe the incidence and severity of hypothermia after delivery. Materials a...

Abstract Objective: To compare the effectiveness of memory work and critical thinking training of children's movement regulation with special methods. Method: The current research was a semi-experimental research with a pre-test, post-test and control group design. The statistical population included all students aged 9 to 12 who referred to the center for special problems in Tabriz distri...

Background: Currently, the number of premature deliveries has been increasing, resulting in early postnatal discharge due to shortage of beds in the neonatal intensive care units (NICU). Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted through investigating the premature infants’ files for gestational age (GA), birth weight (BW) and duration of the first hospitalization. Furthermore, th...
